Being in this stupid room was infuriating. It was full of annoyingly bright objects of all shapes and sizes that offended his eyes. Karkat had been tossed in there after being presented to the prince for his fourth birthday at this big gift-giving ceremony. But there were other gifts to be given and the troll, still in his cage, was sent to the prince’s room. At least he was let out of the cage.

“Lousy humans” he hissed to himself, pacing the room.

He didn’t know how much time had passed before the prince came into the room. Unlike at the ceremony the prince was no longer covered in cake frosting, and in a pair of very fancy pajamas.

“Karkat!” he exclaimed.

The high pitched voice rang in his sensitive ears.

“That’s my name, yes” he responded.

Karkat was unprepared at the prince ran over to him and immediately latched onto his tail.

“Hey, don’t!” he said, but John didn’t listen; only giggled.

He was really tempted to just eat the little human. Karkat may be a young troll, but John was a very young human, and very small. But he didn’t. That would have been a very good way to earn him a very brutal execution. Instead he just flicked his tail out of John’s grip.

But John was persistent, and tried to seize it again.

“I am not a plaything!” growled Karkat, shoving the prince away.

This time John tumbled over and cried. The troll had kicked him rather hard. Then he caught the scent of what was unmistakably blood. He had scratched John with his claws without realizing it! The smell almost drove him mad, but his fear of punishment was enough to keep him from actually attacking John.

Gracefully he walked over to John, who was sobbing and cradling an injured arm. The little human looked up at Karkat with fear in his eyes. He looked so pathetic. Why did he have to be given to this human.

John’s cries were getting louder. Karkat had to do something soon or a guard would come and no one would listen to an untamed troll. He didn’t want to think about how he would be punished for injuring his prince.

Karkat crouched down in front of John, and slowly closed the distance between them. Eventually he was close enough to lick John’s arm, trying his best to show he didn’t mean to hurt him again, but merely clean his wound. Though it did taste good.

It stopped John from crying too, so he didn’t stop, not until John moved. He moved because he yawned, and involuntarily stretched. It had been a big day for the little prince. All the birthday celebrations had worn him out.

Sighing Karkat picked John up, and carried him to his bed. The troll didn’t really know how to tuck a human into bed, so he just crawled onto the bed as well and curled himself around the prince, who snuggled into his soft fur.

The bed was very soft as well, and his situation was much better than most trolls, even if he felt like his status as “pet” was rather demeaning. Living in the palace, as the prince’s protector, he would at least know he would be well-fed and have a palace to sleep at night.

It wasn’t really that bad, Karkat thought, as he drifted off to sleep.
Ok, so i was inspired again by bloodandbits/spadefish on tumblr...

so I word-vomitted this. it's basically just a skeleton scene. Ideally this would be a lot longer, more descriptive and with the whole gift ceremony and stuff. but I wrote this in like 30 min so yeah.

I don't know much about this AU because it is not mine, but I imagine John and Karkat do become friends... sort of XD   (karkat's age is ~7 btw i think. If I did my addition right... he could be younger if nearing his 20th year of servitude i the present time of the AU which would make him 2 years old in this moment. But once again, not my AU and I just... idk.)

But it's in my scraps because it's not a full thought out story so yeah.
